Job Description of the Imam

The Imam will perform the following tasks:

  1. Lead congregational prayers.
  2. Answer questions and offer advice on Islamic issues to Muslims and Non-Muslims.
  3. Oversee the operation of the evening/weekend Islamic school.
  4. Maintain and develop the ISK’s current educational programs including organization of talks on various Islamic occasions for children, teens, women, and men.
  5. Maintain the ISK’s special Ramadan activities including Taraweeh prayer
  6. Participate actively in major ISK events.
  7. Provide counseling services to Muslim families in Kingston as appropriate.
  8. Maintain relationship with Non Muslim groups and communities within Kingston and area.
  9. Help in outreach activities and provide support for new Muslims within Kingston.
  10. Maintain communication and support for Queen’s University Muslim Student Association (QUMSA).
  11. Attend to the spiritual needs of specific vulnerable groups including Muslim patients in Kingston hospitals as well as Muslim Inmates when needed.
  12. Lead funeral prayers at the Masjed and cemetery as needed.
  13. Serve on different ISK committees such as Outreach and Education to facilitate the above objectives.
