Jumu'ah Announcements for January 26 / Jumada al-Ula 9

1. On January 29, 2017 a lone gunman killed six worshippers and injured many others during salah at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec. To commemorate the first anniversary of this tragic shooting we join with communities across Canada to pray for and remember the innocent lives lost and stand in solidarity with the community, We invite you to join together on Sunday, January 28 from 5:30-6:30 pm at the Islamic Centre of Kingston to pray for peace and remember those who were killed. Then on Monday, January 29 from 7-9 pm in Mackintosh-Corry Hall Room B201 at Queen's, there will be a panel discussion on Remembering the Québec Mosque Massacre hosted by Muslim Societies, Global Perspectives. At both events, donations will be collected to support Aymen Derbali, who was left paralyzed in the shooting, to afford a safe and accessible home

2. As you know our current building is no longer able to accomodate our growing community. The new facility would be able to provide dedicated classrooms, a gym, more prayers space and a larger general space to accomodate our growing community's needs. The ISK is planning a major fundraising campaign between February 23-March 25 for the ICK Expansion Project to reach our target of the $1 million needed to start construction in the spring, Insha Allah. We currently have ~60% of this amount. To prepare for this campaign we are forming an Ambassador Team to take part mainly in an online campaign but also, if able, to travel to other masajid within driving distance. A training workshop will be held for the Ambassador Team beforehand to empower the team with the best practices of fundraising by Hossam Amin from ANFIQ. To volunteer please contact secretary@kingstonmuslims.ca by Monday, January 29 Insha Allah.

3. Next week QUMSA is hosting Islam Awareness Week on campus. There are lectures happening every evening starting at 6 pm on Women in Islam on Tuesday, Sharia Law and Jihad on Wednesday, What Islam Means to Me on Thursday, and Journey to Islam: Stories of Converts on Friday. An interactive booth will be set up in the JDUC from 11am-3pm every day Insha Allah.

4. Next Sunday, February 4, there will be a special program for Seniors (ages 60+) from 9-10:30 am. Breakfast will be served. You may also bring one care giver if needed with you.

5. As part of Black History Month we are pleased to welcome Shaikh Abdullah Hakim Quick on Saturday, February 10 for a lecture on "The First Hijra: African Muslims from Makkah to the Americas". Please save the date!

6.We are still in need of volunteers to drive brothers from both Joyceville and Collins Bay Penitentiaries to and from Jumu’ah at the masjid. Please help our brothers connect to the masjid and the community Insha Allah.

7. A reminder that the ISK Membership is due for renewal for 2018. Your membership is required before February 25, 2018 in order to vote in the AGM, to be held Sunday, March 25, 2018.
